The Sheriff’s Office operates both the Detention Center and the Courthouse in Arlington County. There are four shifts that staff the Detention Center. Two day shifts and two night shifts. The shifts are 12 hrs long with a 15 min shift change before and after each shift. This is where the majority of all newly hired Deputy Sheriffs begin their career. After successfully completing the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Academy, Deputy Sheriff’s are eligible to apply for other positions within the Department. The usual minimum requirement for internal transfer is 2 years of service.

Other positions within our Department consist primarily of Court Security, and Civil Process.
